>>all I get at my end is a comfortable 10 KBps

Does that translate to 100Kbps ?? Even so, downloading
1.4GB over 2 weeks using such a line shows that the
connection's good !
What ISP and connection are you using ? I am dying to
know - how much does it costs you etc...

>>and when I told that to some of you at the last lug
meeting, you asked me to stay away from
>>the torrents.

As far as I remember, it was me only :=) BT makes
*optimal* use of avilable bandwidth and in the process
chokes up all other services ...
BitTorrent servers *and* protocol is programmed in
such a way that the file(seed) that you have will
simultaneously be uploaded to a nearer counterpart who
*does not*have it, as you download another new
file/part..

Hence, over a BT network a user simltaneously uploads
*and* downloads data !
As you have a 10KBps connection, I figured out that
your upload speed would be around half the download
speed, which does not come to much..

That would *really* clog out your connection ! But
since you are willing to "go a long way", you may :

1. Goto
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bittorrent/index.htm,
download, compile, make && make install..
2. Follow up at http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/
3. point the BTClient to the .torrent file you just
downloaded and start download.. Enjoy !

Please let me know how it worked out for you.

P.S : Also, send me an offlist email about where you
stay (in Kolkata ? - I remember your home's at Gujarat
?), and how I may contact you (excluding email..)
I would like to talk with you over the phone if you
stay in West Bengal..

Hope I could help !
