Even if this is true, I would'nt be surprised.
Community projects do go different because of
conflicts of interest or otherwise especially if there
is noone to look after it. This has happened with the
GNU initiative (Linux/Hurd) where I suspect many of
the Hurd developers must have started contributing to
the linux kernel. Another project which comes to mind
is xfree86/x.org. Lets see which way linux goes.
