Hmm... managed to solve the issue.
The initrd in the netboot tarball does not have ide-* drivers. Luckily I
had the *.deb of the kernel - from which I extracted the ide-* modules,
and put them in a tarball in my laptop webserver's document root. Before
the installer started the hardware detection process - I wget-ted the
entire thing to the install box, and put the modules in the right
places. Install went smoothly after that.

Now, I have managed to setup a small home network with the desktop
acting as a NAT box. However, I cannot figure out how to permanently
save the iptables rules in Debian - in Gentoo I simply
do /etc/init.d/iptables save. How do I achieve this in Debian ??

-thanks-

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty
recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but
the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream
with open eyes to make it possible.
