Subject line is changed. It applies to the earlier update too. >From there we went there (saugata's mezlab) and to say that i was impressed is a gross understatement. Our co-ordinator (expos) is very talented. And when i say very, that's an understatement too ! For now, just take my word. I'll tell more later.
The relevance of this 'visit' to the BookFair2005 ? Saugata has a way of showing SEVERAL distros of linux on ONE pc only. And he showed me too ! ONLY ONE box, and it acts like several boxes. Surely a miraculous way to show the many things to the many people. Switching to the other distro needs just two keypresses and a mouse click in the window of that other distro. The cursor won't leave the current window running the distro and so this avoids the mouse over-runs beyond the border of the window. The 'guest' distro can be made full screen too. A very convenient way of showing/developing/using SEVERAL distros and several different OS'es too ! This is how it is done : One Distro is loaded. This is the 'basic' OS. On top of this the utility is loaded. THEN MANY other OS'es are loaded as 'guest' distros. And MIND YOU, they all run at the same time in their own windows (which can go full screen without borders to make you forget that it is an OS within another OS). Caveat : the ram, hdd has to be high enough to support each OS. These resources are NOT shared btwn OS'es .. they are segmented and allotted. So no clashes. For the curious, the 'guest' OS'es run from a flat file for that OS with a few other files for configuration, etc And this is fun, amazing : ONE OS can ping the ip of the OTHER OS from its "window'ed" mode .. and the other OS happily RESPONDS. (both must have ip's which are not the same, naturally) .. its as if a whole network is on ONE cpu box. Limitation : Obviously this will put great demands on the h/w. More ram is needed. Bigger, Many hdd's will be needed, etc Limitation Bashed : Some h/w is 'simulated' . Like in the above case, the network card is 'virtual' .. and works like a real h/w nic .. and enables the 'network' without 'network' to be demo'ed Applicatbility : For demo-ing soooo many things this is good (will we use it ? work of geniuses is seldom recognized. I take the honour since there won't be any/many takers. Thank you saugata for 'enlightening' me. I was curious. You are serious) ..piI (this could be a way to show many many distros in BookFair2005) -- To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the body "unsubscribe ilug-cal" and an empty subject line.
