Interesting question, Prosun.
A quick counter question: why did you take to Linux in the first place? Yeah, you.
Was it cost? Was it something else?
Speaking of myself, when I first tried to install Debian in my rusty old 16 MB RAM/1 GB machine, I did so because I started learning bioinformatics, realized being in Windows wouldn't help me much, and I did not want to dispose of my old machine either.
for me it was the absence of any compiler, interpreter, useful tools like nmap, traceroute etc. in propritory platform firstly. secondly i was always comfortable with my fingers typing the commnads on any unix platform ! -hizibiz
Also my reasons, mostly. And also viruses.
