PG or Project Gutenberg is an endevour to convert all the books in
public domain (meaning whose copyrights have expired) to computer
readable format, the preferred format being a plain simple ascii file
... there are thousands of books over there ... enough to fill a DVD
even, and most of them being plain ascii files! And most files are
zipped in the DVD!!!

To download DVD images go to
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/docs/books/gutenberg/1/0/8/0/10802

To downlaod CD images go to
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/docs/books/gutenberg/1/1/2/2/11220

Lastly, an official description about themselves :

"Project Gutenberg is the oldest producer of free electronic books
(eBooks or etexts) on the Internet. Our collection of more than 13.000
eBooks was produced by hundreds of volunteers. Most of the Project
Gutenberg eBooks are older literary works that are in the public
domain in the United States. All may be freely downloaded and read,
and redistributed for non-commercial use (for complete details, see
the license page)."

Please remember that these CD & DVD images are under Creative Commons
Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 1.0 license.

For more details on the licensing issues pls go to

If you would like to submit works to PG then know more about it from
