"ilug-bangalore" on yahoo search throw up about 106 results

among them :

ilug-bangalore
ilug-bangalore-technical
ilug-bangalore-non-tech

etc

maybe for [OT] and 'techie' discussions the 'ilug-cal' group on yahoogroups
could work as the 'other room'

I have been reading *the thread* on the list today (since I pulled mails and chewed through a lot of them :) )

While the above idea is something that is admirable, I would not like to see it implemented.

One of the primary reasons being that this instant comparison with BLUG is something that on a personal note I find to be irrelevant. Each LUG in India is unique in its own way (including the bitter quarrels and *look I'm quitting* mails). Comparing the tools of one LUG (however thriving it might be) and then adopting them to one's own is not the resolution of the issue.

The original subject line uses a word that is significant in connotation - *mature*. In order to grow into a responsible LUG, the important aspect would be to introspect.

A lot of questions have been raised about the site (and the fact that it is dated) - would anyone volunteer to provide content for the same ? Or perhaps volunteer to keep it updated ?

There has been talk about [OT] threads and how they eat bandwidth. Sure enough, sitting on a fat pipe it matters little to me (though I remember when earlier such posts used to get me mad). But for a moment step back. The posts are publicly archived. Would you like to read this drivel/troll 2 years from now ?

What exactly is stopping us from planning for 3 months down the line ? What do *we* think we can do ? And what do we need to do those things we think we can do ?

Earlier, during the times of Gnome 2.4-2.6 a lot of folks tried out new/untested components and posted bug reports and feedback. Would you have me believe that *all* of us are working on stable-tested and very complete distributions which don't require any testing ?

What do *we* think would attract younger talent to the LUG ? Face it for a fact, a lot of us have grown older and have moved on with far intensive approach towards professional careers - so what can we do to fill up our ranks ?

Think over these please. At LinuxAsia 2005, OpenOffice.org Community Manager (Louis Suarez Potts) mentioned iLUG-Cal by name while discussing the vibrant support of UGs. If we can have that large a footprint it is time to behave with the responsibility that it brings.
