Some usb umax scanners will be supported soon by sane backends. The umax people are illiterates... they can't even write a driver module for their usb scanners. The main thing in scanners is what is proprietary. Any hacker knows that. Apparently umax is cheaper.Hi all,
I'm planning to purchase a flat-bed scanner. Does anyone here have actual hands-on experience w.r.t to the manufacturers, and models (as available in India) and known to work on Linux.
My vendor is suggesting that HP ScanJet 2400 is Linux Compatible. But the sane web-pages are not clear abt it.
Any suggestions?

Many of the HP ones and few of the canon ones are supported. Try for epson or HP.
