hey,
the article was a preview of a software which is very popular and almost the 
global standard in it's own right. Just because it's a LUG doesn't mean that 
people using GNU/linux  will stop using all propreitary software. it doesn't 
work that way. for me the philosophy of GNU means freedom of choice. 
propreitary software will stay as long as we keep on using computers. 
besides i've been working on linux from slackware 1.0 , but still i haven't 
found a free software which can iteract with Xilinx FPGA's  the way their 
propreitary solution does. Think about oracle, SAP they are good (probably the 
best) solutions available in their  respective segments. Besides they support 
the GNU/Linux movement  heavily. I think that the power of windows is only 
because of the application programs available. It's better to accept the 
reality and make it very clear to ourselves that the propreitay softwares are 
here to stay. 
i think that GNU/Linux is the most powerful operating platform. as such any new 
apps available on this platform will make it all the more powerful.
