like to add one more point that my existing YMF-724-F has inbuilt audio
amplifier (2w+2w), but when I try VIA sound , to get the same volume I have
to increase the volume knob of my speaker. I think VIA doesn't have any such
inbuilt amplifier.

more over YMF-724 has a good synthesiser but I can't find anything in VIA
using *dmesg* . old is gold ???
