You can set httrack not to download any of these files. Setting options like 
-*.tar will not download any tar files.

Another useful option is -mN which specifies the maximum non html file length.

Check out the man page, it has tons of options.

httrack already makes multiple connections to the website. So I don't think 
that you will get any "accelerated" speed by using a download manager. I 
don't think that "accelerated" downloading is of any use unless multiple 
mirrors are present.
