check you iptables settings. maybe they're not allowing anyhing in.
# iptables -nL
if you see that everything is DENY then, you can disable your firewall
completely, build a custom one.
for testing, allow everything in by:
# iptables -F
later build you firewall manually, or by a tool such as firestarter.
