Hi

some of you already have done some experiments with different window managers.
if any one use KDE with a different window manager (rather than native kwin) to
get good speed please let me know.

I have also done some experiments with different window managers and below is
the result
  ( AMD semapron 1.5GHz, 128MD DDR333, 256KB L1, 152KB L2 )

icewm 1.2.20 -> very fast. small. Win95 like taskbar . themes available. my
default window
manager. there is icewm control panel a Py-Gtk based fast
application for
configuration ( like Kcontrol in KDE ) .

fluxbox 0.9.11 -> document says fluxbox is small as well as fast and fluxbos
is just blackbox
with some bug fixes but I have found it slow .
no panel and taskbar . so one
need to use fspanel or fbpanel. fbpanel is more
candy than fspanel.
perlpanel is just like kde or gnome panel (
candy ) but depends on
Gnome2 library files .*fluxconf* is the
configuration tool for fluxbox.

openbox 3.2.6 -> this one is much faster than fluxbox. *obconf* is
configuration manager for
openbox. need fbpanel or fspanel or perlpanel as
there is taskbar .

UWM with UDE 0.9.2b -> unix window manager(UWM) with unix desktop
                                         environment(UDE) . UWM uses simple
xlibs for speed. but one need
again fbpanel or fspanel or perlpanel.

fvwm 2.5.12 -> highly configurable but there is no front end for
configuration. configuring
through base file is terrific and time consuming.
so I left it.

thanks
