<nitpicking>

1. A Domain Name != Website.
2. Site-entry is in the name of ILUG-Cal
3. I'm simply the admin contact :)

To answer the questions at hand:

1. ILUG-Cal.org site and mailing lists have been hosted by Russell
McOrmand since mid-1999. The servers are based in Canada. Russell has
never charged us a dime, nor does he intend to as long as we remain
there. Which means we don't pay for the server space or the b/w we use,
Russell does.

2. Its a shared server, so in the event of requirement of custom
services and software to be installed on the server this may not be
possible (have to ask Russell)

3. IMHO, a project like wiki-map ***will*** need custom software to be
installed on the server. In that case, we need a dedicated co-located
server. Few hosting service providers will allow for additional software
and dependencies to be installed on a shared server for security issues.

4. A decent dedicated co-lo server with decent bandwidth will cost
anywhere between USD 150 - 200 (and upwards) per month

5. We will also need cvs and/or subversion SCM systems to manage the
development. No average commercial web-hosting provider will generally
provide this.

6. Option that emerge is clear -> sourceforge.net for the heavy-lifting
required.

7. If we purchase a domain name, hosting the pages (not software and
downloads) can possibly be hosted on the same server as ILUG-CAL.ORG,
which will forward the user to the downloads and cvs segments.

8. I did not understand the question about being clear w.r.t ownership
and IP. AFAIK, all the content (except comments) on www.ilug-cal.org is
copyleft ILUG-Cal. What exactly do you want me to clarify?

cheers,
-indra
