I'm confused.  The postfix setup you mention only talks about getting
POP mail from gmail, which is why enabling POP for your account was
mentioned previously.  But you keep referring to _sending_ email.  The
postfix howto wont help you at all for sending mail using gmail.  Unless
I completely missed something.

If you want to use gmail as your SMTP, you need to use the gmail api.
There are several small proof of concept apps out there already to do
this.  Or you can build your own using something like libgmail
(http://libgmail.sourceforge.net).
