Hello ,
I am using an old 64Mb Nvidia Quadro2 Pro AGP card on an nforce2 board (MSI) and Athlon xp 2600+ (barton) and 1Gb ram (512x2) and SATA Hdd . The reason i'm giving so much details is that i've been at it for weeks without locating the problem . I've been using the 2.6.10 kernel (custom build) with the nvidia 1-0.6629 version of their prop. driver . the reason for using the old driver is that nvidia has withdrawn support for the quadro2 pro ( as well as other old chips ) in their newer drivers - that's mentioned clearly in the "README" files included in the newer driver versions .
This system has been stable .
Now i tried to upgrade to the later kernel version 2.6.15.6 , downloaded the source and compiled and lilo and rebooted and everything is alright . BUT ONLY the nvidia driver version 1-0.6629 WOULD NOT COMPILE !!!! As i am stuck with this driver version because of my old video-card (which i love) , am i ALSO stuck with the kernel ?? What has changed in the new kernel so much ? is there a patch or a solution ?
Other than that the new kernel works perfectly on my system in text mode .
I need the new kernel for my tv-tuner to work - it's very flaky on the 2.6.10 - and
documented problem with the 2.6.10 .
Ugly hole - ANY HELP . Suggestions .
                                        - pinaki .
