[ilug-cal] mysterious .serverauth files

every time i do startx as one particular user on my machine, a file 
called .serverauth.15134  (or some other four-digit or five-digit 
number) gets created in the home directory. the 'file' command shows 
that it is of 'X11 Xauthority data' type.
so these files go on collecting in the home dir, one for every time i do 
startx. but this is happening with one particular user only, not the 
others. anyone have any idea what this is about?
