People ,
i request some guidance from users in this list of airtel gprs service in kolkata . i am presently connecting using local cablewallah LAN 64kbps unlimited use for 450Rs /mnth .
             i have a non-gprs airtel phone .
an friend suggested that it'll be cheaper to buy a gprs-enabled phone and use airtel gprs to connect . i am unfamilair with this - having used dial-up a long time ago on linux (the ppp stuff). i have
 some questions ....
1) which gprs-phone model do u people suggest for easy use under linux pref through serial port cable ? i will tie it up to a linux-box for exclusive internet use so i don't need any other
feature .
2) how do i configure for 24/7 uptime under linux ? please also consider that i want to run the phone under mains-adapter so as to avoid recharging the battery if thats
possible . any sample ppp scripts ?
3) most importantly how much do i have to pay monthly to airtel for this service - inclusive
                of everything ? i presently have a lifetime-prepaid sim .
            4) what's the actual speed in kbps that i get ?
Shall be grateful for the info .
                                               - pinaki .
