Dear Prajith, I received a new Ubuntu 8.10 CD from *shipit.ubuntu.com *two days ago. I too find the same problem in the* live* mode; it runs well till the orange screen with the sound disappears. The 'wheel' icon then spins for some time and gets replaced by the bright mouse pointer in the black screen. The mouse pointer moves but nothing else appears then. We are both in the same boat.
The installed previous version, Ubuntu 8.04, however, works well in the same PC.
