Dear Mr. Harish,
Thank you for your suggestions.I think the problem
seems compounded as follows.I am learning new things though my laptop does
weird things.The following may explain you the state clearly sothat you can
give useful suggestions.
You can have only one bootloader in the MBR. now what you have to do is add
your suse as an item in the ubuntu /boot/grub/menu.lst.
To remotely help you I need all the replies/responses and menu.lst of both
installations (do not know if suse uses grub or lilo as boot loader. at
least tell me the partitions on which the 2 linuxes are installed

1.The boot loader is GNU GRUB version 0.97( 638K lower / 2086720K upper
memory)
2.Switching on the machine,graphical boot menu appears( Linux, Xen,Failsafe)
3.Pressing Esc gives me text mode interface
4.In this screen,Pressing c leads to grub
5.find /boot/grub/stage1 gives the following message
(hd0,0)
(hd0,6)
6. root (hd0,0) gives the following one
File system type is reiserfs,partition type 0x83
7.root (hd0,4) gives
File system type is unknown partition type 0x82
8.setup (hd0) yesterday gave message …….succeeded and done.
9.Probably I made a lot of mess. Today the above command gives the message
Error 17:Cannot mount selected partition.
I think I made a simple problem into a compound problem. How can I rectify
it?
I will be grateful to you Mr. Harish you can suggest a viable solution.
How can I learn the installation of Linux operating systems with Grub
bootloader.
Any tutorial or step by step guide available?
Please Help me
