Since yours is a Conexant hsfmodem, try looking at linuxant.org for the drivers. You can get a free 16kbps version of the driver. The full speed driver costs more than twice the cost of the modem.
What a pain! I am also a victim of the same. Does anyone have any idea about these drivers? Is there a chance for a project behind the internal modem drivers?
