Aneesh, I believe you are aware that Gimp is available for use in Windows also. And yes, Gimp is a good tool. We do our designs using Gimp only. You can easily import psds made in photoshop to Gimp. Only problem you will face are with fonts. When you insert font as a layer in psd, it will be treated as an image layer, rather than a font layer, when you import it using gimp. other than this, Gimp is a real good tool compared to photoshop.
