I am an oDesk service provider for more than an year. Payments are perfect and you will get pay-per-hour based projects which I feel as the best mode of getting paid. I earn around 8$ per hour, which is pretty average considering the odesk profiles. You can easily get paid over 12$ per hour if you can provide consistent work. There is no fees, except a marginal amount they will charge on each payment. Like 10% of each payment. I have also worked on rentacoder and comparing to it, oDesk is better.
