If you meant where they are installed, /lib directory contains the shared library images to run the commands or programs in /bin or /sbin and all header files needed for compiling user space source code are placed in /usr/include. Specifically, /usr/include/<package-name> contains application specific header files. The /lib directory also contains kernel modules under /lib/modules/ and some architecture dependent libraries on /lib/<architecture>. > 2.Can we copy the lib files from one system to another? Probably not. Because most of the libraries are compiled against the standard C library (GNU libc here), which in turn is compiled against the kernel modules in the system. So differences in kernel versions may cause problems. Moreover many of these libraries require a minimum version of certain libraries like libc. So a new libgtk for an old libc might not work. Again, I meant installed libraries, not packages containing them. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ "Freedom is the only law".
