PCBSD is a very good operating system . It is FreeBSD with a tightly integrated KDE4 desktop. I have been using it and have found it to be very good till now. I havent installed SCIM in it but that shouldnt be too difficult i suppose. Other than that everything works well on my Lenovo 3000 N 200 laptop.
