Since you are at it, you should really compare the ODF to OOXML. OOXML is also an office file format like ODF and it also uses compressed xml data (zip). OOXML is a supposedly 'open' format from - you know who! It is the format that office 2007 uses. Try opening the xml file containing the text content and compare it with that of ODF. See which of the two files is easier to understand. I am sure that you will immediately form a preference to one of the two formats.
