Hi All, Fsug-Tvm is the most active and popular Free Software User Group in Kerala. The mailing list is very active concerning the number of members and the intensity of discussions. As we grow more we can't compromise with the quality of discussions happening here. As going through some past mail threads in the list, I think we have to insist some guidelines among the members as soon as possible. Most of the points i mention here are discussed in several threads before.
My suggestion to keep the mailing list clean 1. The first and the most important thing is the Subject of the mail. I remember, it is discussed several times here and we are now following some good practices. Give a meaningful subject. If you are asking a question, the subject can be a brief description of your problem. The subject should resemble the content of your mail. Please avoid subjects with greetings, salutations etc. 2. Use one tag in your subject if needed:- It will be a good practice if you tag your mail. Each mail to this group will contain one "[fsug-tvm]" tag added by the group policies. Mails which contains some points to be shared but not directly related to the content of the group should be tagged with [OT] or [off-topic]. If you are sharing a news related to free software, you may use [news] tag. 3. Do a search in the mail archive before you ask a question. It may be asked and solved before you ask. 4. Trim down your replies:- When you reply to a thread, please spend some time to remove unwanted contents, repeated email signatures, auto generated content etc for high readability. 5. Do not reply to spam mails. Leave that to the List Administrators for further action. Your valuable suggestions and improvisations on this topic are welcome.
