I'm referring to the Free Software movement in general. Also, GNU
project is not about specific software projects.

No point in calling everything GNU/Linux. Only GNU/Linux should be named so.
If you want to call it that, feel free to do so. But do

Those who know history also has the responsibility of preserving it
rather than distorting/ignoring it.

The free software that you see today, the free knowledge initiatives
like wikipedia, all owes its very existence to the GNU project and the
Free Software movement started by RMS. It is not just "one of the many
other projects out there" as you said.

"Thousands of projects have developed programs commonly included in
today's GNU/Linux systems. They all deserve credit for their
contributions, but they aren't the principal developers of the system
as a whole, so they don't ask to be credited as such.
GNU is different because it is more than just a contributed program,
more than just a collection of contributed programs. GNU is the
framework on which the system was made."
