Programs which is coded as windows executable binary is supported by
the windows compatibility layer Wine. So one can run a executable
virus program using wine in Linux system too. But virus programs are
autorun executables and which is not possible using wine and an
autorun script in Linux. Thus it is possible only to run such a
program forcefully. Thus a virus will act as a virus as same as in
windows environment. You have to work to find and run them. Some of
them are even able to replicate and propagate. Some of the complex h/w
access made by the programs are not allowed by wine and thus some of
them will not work anyway. They can slow down the system by generating
multiple process threads and unrestricted usage of resources. "ps -A"
will show those processes with ".exe" postfix. As I've noticed the
program which which works as a virus can only do anything inside /home
folder and I can suggest you to keep your valuable files outside your
home folder. Those programs seems to rise the processor load when run
with wine. As a conclusion these are the points...

1 . Windows Virus programs can be run by wine under Linux
2 . Viruses are not as dangerous in Linux as if they were in Windows.
3 . If you are using Wine keep your /home clean
4 . Find Linux alternatives of programs instead of using wine.
 5 . Read Wine Wiki -- http://wiki.winehq.org/
