In that case, I don't understand what is meant by fanaticism here. I
interpreted it to mean "refusal to compromise". If that is not the case,
then I have nothing to say.

I am not good at history of any kind, but what I understand about the
Gandhi-Irwin pact is that it was a kind of agreement reached as a
consequence of peace talks. Both sides agreed to certain things. That
is, to me at least, something very different from agreeing to use
proprietary software because it is more convenient to the user. In the
first case, there were two sides that mutually came to an agreement.
Both sides yielded something. Here, it is one side giving up something
because it is convenient to some people. This is one-sided. The other
side yielded nothing.
