Hi, Unlike most distros Ubuntu is *very* user friendly and is a superb choice for a newbie. If anyone is worried about stability just go for an LTS version. Besides all that, the chance of you getting help from the community is very much greater if you use ubuntu. If you are doubtful about the above claim try #ubuntu on irc.freenode.net .I believe that the support you get there defines the linux community.
