Also try printing out a plain text document to make sure that you are not trying to print out grey shades or other tints that require color cartridges. The printer is an old model and people have been reporting it to be working since dapper - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=313326. Did you try another distro? I believe you might be able to try printing from different distros using their respective live CDs/DVDs. I have not tried that strategy though.
