I have an MCP51 chipset and I don't have any issues in Fedora 11.

Are you sure Alsa is installed properly on your machine? Run alsa-info to
get diagnostic info.

If there is a problem with Alsa, you can try upgrading or re-installing Alsa
drivers and utilities.
