In my personal opinion editing the grub.cfg is more secure compared to
other alternatives.

Just backup the orginal file & make sure you know some way to restore
it, if something goes wrong.

I'm not a geek, but i can tell that this is much safer for non geeks.
Because I've edited the grub.cfg without much confusion.

you may use startup-manager if you are scared, but it may not fulfill
all your requirements
