But I think downloading the file and streaming through browser will be the
same in data usage. Streaming is so slow compared to download directly via a
download manager/plugin(say 'downthemall').

http://www.voobys.com/ (there are many others if you wish) will just suit
your need. Just open the video from youtube and copy the URL from the
address bar to any of the above portals. Or use 'downloadhelper' plugin as
Girish suggested. (But Joju's option have an additional feature of
previewing the video :) )

In my experience 'downloadhelper' do the same thing Joju posted here.
Because, if I stream the entire video in the browser, 'downloadhelper' will
take absolutely no time to download a file (!). But I'm not sure about this.
Do anyone know what happens behind?
