It seems you are new to Ubuntu. You can do this in two ways.Make sure you
have active internet connection. this will download about 50MB.

1.
Goto Applications>Ubuntu Software Centre
then search for *ubuntu restriced extras *click the arrow button to install
it. Wait for installation to complete.

2.
Open Terminal from *Applications> Accessories> Termina**l *then type
following command.

*sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restriced-extras*
*
*
then follow the instructions. This will install most of required codecs


You may also try different players like *vlc* or *smplayer. *Just
replace *ubuntu-restriced-extras
*with* vlc *or* smplayer.*
