not sure if xrandr really works in 9.1
if it does
try following commands
1) xrandr
out put will be like this
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 1024
VGA connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
267mm x 200mm
   800x600        85.1 +   85.1     72.2     75.0     60.3     56.2
   1024x768       60.0*
   832x624        74.6
   640x480        85.0     75.0     72.8     66.7     59.9
   720x400        70.1
2) xrandr -s 1 (index starts from 0, 0 for 800X600)
you can use xrandr to add new modes of 1024 X768 is not available
try xrandr -h
