I'll explain the matter....

It is possible to open and edit .doc files using open office. Also you can
open the .docx files with it, but you cannot save it as .docx.
The open office suite bundled with Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic can open & edit .docx
files (which I believe someone modified the suite).
I did a bit of googling & found out the Novell edition of the openoffice
have similar capability. I tried to download the plugin alone (as I already
have the installation file of the stock OOO), but cannot do it because of
certain issues during registration (mentioned earlier in this thread).
I want a similar patch or plugin that could help openoffice (windows
version) to open & save as XML formats (.docx,pptx,xlx). If somebody has it,
or if it is available on alternate download locations, please inform me.
