So I think that has nothing to do with partition system... What if the failure to mount partitions is just a symptom of something else? The CD drive & USB drives are also not getting detected (I forgot to mention that) and system is awfully slow... But there was no problem while using Ubuntu 9.10 -- "Freedom is the only law".
