Are you sure about the error message "Unable to mount volume, you are
not the rooter" .If it is not the actual error message please send the
exact error message.

Try to mount the pendrive as a root:

Hit Alt+F2
type gksudo nautilus ,press enter
You will get a nautilus window with root .Click the icon for your
pendrive to mount it and view files.

What format is the pen-drive formatted as?Does it have a hardware
write protect-lock? (some notch like thingy?)

Can you see the files in the pen-drive(i.e are the readable?) Can you
copy files from your pen-drive to your desktop?
