Use the command
"xrandr"
without quotes in a command line.
It will display all supported resolutions.

To change resolution to 1024x768, use

"xrandr -s 1024x768"

if it cant set the resolution permanently, run it as root also. by
prefixing "sudo" or "gksu" with (any) command.
