Though this list is not about sex or porn, having had several mails that
I find somewhat problematic, I thought I should respond.

There are several problems with porn, which are not always true for all
sexual material. For one, porn vulgarises sex. Male-female relationship
is not just about sex, though sex does have an important role. Porn
tends to highlight sex at the cost of other human relationships. That is
the difference between pornography and good literature that may have
even explicit sexual content.

Another is that pornography generally tends to show woman as an object
for man's pleasure. This can lead to a distorted understanding that can
affect the relationship between husband and wife, male and female
friends, boyfriend and girlfriend. Even brother and sister. Remember,
sensible sex education was objected to by a section of the society so
that children can now learn about sex only from pornography or from
adults who have other intentions. Child abuse is very common in our
society, though no one would want to speak about it.

Pornography where both sexes treat each other with respect, and treats
each other as fellow human beings, may not be all that bad. But I wonder
whether there exists such a thing. Not that I am an expert in the
matter!
