Dear friends

I have done voting to the components which i know leaving the unknown un
attended.
I am a beginner and i am a user not developer. My specific demand as a user
are the following.
1. The file search options should be more user friendly like windows. I
mean, provision for more than one search criteria should be given, and
provision for copying files (in single or in group) from the search list to
another place should be given. (Whenever I want to search some files and
want to copy them to a memory stick, i have to see the search list and note
down the path and go back to explorer to copy them individually.

2. Renaming option. In windows, you select any number of files together and
just click rename for one file, the rest of the selected files will
automatically change their names with serial number. This is necessary for
managing photos. For example, I have 150 photos shot from wynad and it have
the serial number provided by the camera. If I want to attach 'Wynad' to the
file name of these files, In windows, i select these files and click rename
and type wynad. it will result all the files will have wynad as name and
there will be a sequential number. This is easy.

3. Formating option - It is quite often one need to format their pen drives
as we used to do with our floppy drives. Now I have to go to ubuntu
repository and find out a package and install and do. I think it should be
the integral part of the distribution since it is an application people
regularly need.

4. Printer drivers - Most of the printer drivers do not come with all
features like 'fit to page', reduce to certain % and so on. This control
options are absent in many printers under ubuntu.

5. Scanners - attaching a scanner to the computer is quite difficult in
ubuntu, where you have to be genius to do so. can it be in a form of plug
and play?

6. Font installation - It is very confusing and complex to install a font
downloaded from net. Can there be any small application that will enable
people to do font installation easily?

7. Photo manager - a simple application (like picture manager in windows)
for easy conversion and file management of images (to resize, to compress,
to convert)is necessary in linux too. Gimp is good but it is for experts
only.

8. I would recommend to add "Picassa (linux version)" and "skype (linux)
since picassa is good in image management and importing image from a scanner
or camera and skype is preferred communication application. installing
picassa in linux is easy, but skype need some technical hand to deal with
sound and picture.

9. Like windows movie maker can there be any simple software attached to
linux for users to make movies (most of the cameras now come with movie
options and stills)?

10. Auto run CDs. - Nowadays we get many auto run Info CD/DVDs. They do not
work with linux. How can we create autorun CDs for linux Any application for
creating autorun CDs which will have option to run in windows and linux?

11. Lastly, Any facility for donating (simple donations, not credit card /
paypal..)even small contributions (like sending SMS to contribute Rs.10/-)
for linux community in Kerala (like your group)? This will pool good amount
of money for open source software development and distribution plus, gives
opportunity for all people to be part of it through sending a simple
donation which is an sms away! this will gather mass support in propogating
the idea of open source. I believe it is waste of time and resources to get
free CD's of linux from Europe. That money can be saved if we can get those
CDs free from Kerala itself leaving an option for the receiver to send one
or two sms to a particular number which will take care of cost of the CD and
postage.

I don't know whether the features / functions I mentioned above are already
covered in the application in the voting list. Please ignore such demands
and advice me those.

love and peace
Shibu
