Good question ...

The most capable NLE on Linux seems to be Cinelerra ... But everyone complains 
about its UI which is opinionated. The feature set though is really very 
impressive. IIRC VA Linux used to offer custom built NLE workstations based 
around it.  Everything else, like Kino, seems to be geared towards home movies 
:) This is all based on info from a few years ago; not sure of the current 
status though.

Just yesterday I had a discussion with a post-production guy (who worked on 
Machete), and he says the major two packages for NLE are Avid and FCP and 
nothing else comes close... not even Premiere.
