In a terminal type
   screen /dev/ttyUSB2
if it fails /dev/ttyUSB0
                                  1
                                  3

then issue the command
AT+CSQ

you will receive a message like
xx,yy

xx can vary from 00 to 25
xx < 15, signal insufficient
xx>15, good signal

or xx indicates signal strength.

yy is info regarding bit error rate.
