no need to care about the versions,, can use any available version Eg,, windows XP and download a current version of cygwin from cygwin.com
install cygwin with necessary packages,, then download ns2 from http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/dist/ns-allinone-2.27.tar.gz install it and use.
