That's because Drupal has two views of any story - Default and Teaser.

On the homepage, only the teasers are shown by default. Teaser takes some
text from the top of the story/page/node and displays it. Image is blocking
that here.

This is normal behavior of default view.

And I will suggest using Drupal 7 instead of the oldie and ageing D6, as D7
is out for over 6 months now. Just created a website with it last week, and
loved it to the core.
