Yes. Just do this at the command line instead of apt-get install youtube-dl.
(After "sudo su" and giving the password,)

wget "https://raw.github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/2011.10.19/youtube-dl"; -O
/bin/youtube-dl

I would like to warn you that most software in Debian 5.0 (stable)
will be really old (and the online software repository will not have a
lot of recently released software) and this can cause a lot of issues.
Unfortunately the solution to this is to use a testing version of
Debian, which would mean that you have to cross your fingers every
time you do an upgrade as it is *guaranteed* to break something. I
recommend that you switch to Ubuntu until you have had _some_
familiarity with Linux before coming back to Debian.
