Hi Fellow GNU/Linux lovers,

This has been in my mind for a long time, and I think this group would be
the best place to put it across. Lately I have been thinking of a
distributed peer to peer backup solution. This thought has come out
basically from my personal requirement of backing up my data ( personal
pictures, videos and other documents ) which I maintain in my computer. I
believe this might be the case of the rest of us. Losing all this
information from my misbehaving computer will be a huge tragedy for me.

Currently the options are expensive ( at least for me) to backup on the
servers and have some sort of limitations with regard to operating system
or space limitation. That is when I thought a distributed backup solution
might be the way to go. At least some of us have a full time Internet
connection and ample space on our computers ( with those 500 GB and 750 GB
options nowadays), which might be used in an efficient way by the system to
build a reliable system.

Is this something which is interesting to us, and which is solving a
prevalent problem which we are facing. If so lets talk about it and see
what we can do about it. Comments are invited and suggestions on how to go
forward.

There is already a solution catering to this, check it out

Thanks everyone for listening.

Best regards,
George
