I don't understand open-source.
Imagine you publish a book. Is it fair that anybody who buys your book has
full right to edit your book at their whim and re-publish it as they like?
In other words, why is it so that, what's considered plagiarism in the
publishing industry, is considered as an ideal ethic in software industry?

[Proponents of FOSS are welcome to engage a discussion and clarify my
questions.]
